Have you ever wonder you made the dentures? You don't have to wonder any longer. A denture technician does
it. Usually it is somebody that is different, then your dentist. Yes, it is possible that your dentist can also be a denture technician and have their
own lab in their office in the back room.
Depending on the size of the lab, it might take one person to make the dentures or many different people. If it is a small size lab then usually only
one person makes them. If its a bigger lab usually more then one person makes. Since there are different parts of making dentures, then one person is
assigned to that a part and then only work on that part for any and all dentures.
The way that the dentures are made, is by the dentist sending in a prescription (order) to the denture technician. Then the denture technician fills
the prescription. With the denture technician following the prescription from the dentist, then the technician can make the proper dentures for the
patient.
As soon as the denture technician receives the mould then they can start making the
dentures. The first step is by pouring plaster in side of the model, then allowing it to set. After it has been set, then they set it on an apparatus
that copies the movement and bite of a persons jaw. After the denture technician examines the plaster model, they take note of the size, gasps and
shape of the teeth. Depending on the observation, the denture technician would make another model but using wax this time. The was model would used to
make wire framing for the dentures.
